Kindergarten Enrichment Teacher:
My name is Destiny Axtman, and I’m very excited to let you guys know that I am lead teacher for Before & After School Kindergarten. I’m moving into this position from assistant in Erika’s Pre-K and sub for both Becky and Erika’s classrooms, which I started in September of 2018. Having worked in these classes I am familiar with many of the children returning and am extremely excited to assist in their growth for another year!
I have siblings and cousins which happen to be in this age group or have recently been. I have been a nanny for family and friends for children around this age also. I’m also certified in CPR, first aid and blood-borne pathogens. Adding this experience to my past year of experience here at Country Dawn, I know I am prepared to move into this position and provide quality care for while they’re attending!
Personally, I’ve nearly always lived in Lake Stevens, and graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 2017. Outside of Country Dawn I am a full-time student, I’m currently working on getting a degree in psychology and plan to focus on children’s developmental and behavioral psych. When I’m not in school or at work I spend my time with my family or reading.
Information about the program:
Following the habits of what they did in Pre-K last year, but with the advancement of Kindergarten, there are areas I would like to focus on. The first being creativity: My hope is to have an art project often, some guided, collectively themed projects in relation to holidays, important events and other thematic opportunities (if there’s some specific holiday/event/theme I miss over that you would like to see. Ideas are always welcome!). The other aspect will be free art, as I see this as a wonderful form of emotional/personal expression that shouldn’t be missed or limited! Another skill I plan to centrally focus on is fine motor skills - cutting gluing, drawing, writing, painting - as well as general motor skills with jump ropes, trikes, hula hoops and other outdoor activities (hopefully the weather permits!). The third skill would be strategizing and memory with games - memory matching, puzzles, word games, etc.! Fridays are movie days, students are welcome to bring in a movie they like (with a “G” or “PG” rating, of course) to share! Lastly, for any concerns, comments, questions, please feel free to reach out to me at any time!
